Corner Plates
« Thread started on: Oct 4th, 2006, 9:38pm »

The question that came up was: Can the corner plates sit on top of the wood like on a limber box or do they need to be set in flush with the surface on the sides and back like the print shows. The photos we have or a couple original and repro forges appear like they may be sitting on top of the wood.

My thoughts:
I think the plates do need to be sunk flush as per print because the bar that the handle is attached to needs to be flush against the plates and the wood. It is hard to tell by the pictures we have how the others are made.

My interpretation from reading the directions and looking at the photos, (sorry the Mordecai drawings are in my shop) is that the corner plates at the back side are inset both rear and side, and the corner plates at the front are inset in the sides of the box but not inset at the front of the box. I believe the description that came with the drawings mentioned this.
